Choosing your subjects

Pick your subjects in the setup flow on the dashboard, or at any time in Settings → IB subjects. The board shows the six places a Diploma has to fill, and puts each subject you pick in one of them.

You can save fewer than six and come back. Augment only refuses a choice that couldn't become a valid Diploma by adding more subjects.

The rules Augment checks

These follow the IB's rules for the Diploma:

  • six subjects, three or four at Higher Level (HL) and the rest at Standard Level (SL);
  • one subject from each of groups 1 to 5;
  • the sixth from group 6, or a second subject from groups 1 to 4 in place of the arts;
  • one math course (Maths AA or Maths AI, not both);
  • one course per language, so not English A with English B, for example;
  • a level only where the subject offers it (ab initio courses are SL only).

Environmental systems and societies counts for group 3 or group 4, and literature and performance for group 1 or group 6.

A subject you can't add stays in the list, grayed out, with the reason beside it, such as "You already take Maths AA".

The subject checker runs the same rules without an account. The IB guide's chapter on choosing subjects and levels explains them.

How HL and SL content works

HL includes everything in SL, plus extra material. Augment stores each topic once, with its level:

  • in the SL view, you see the SL material only;
  • in the HL view, you see everything, with the HL-only parts marked.

Each subject in the question bank, notes and quick fire has its own SL and HL switch. The question bank and notes open a subject at the level you chose last.

Practicing a subject you don't take

Nothing is locked to your six. Open any subject from the question bank, notes or quick fire. Your own subjects are listed first.

Changing a subject

Change it in Settings → IB subjects. Your progress in the old subject stays: questions you marked, notes pages you finished and quick-fire strength are kept against the subject, not against your choice.

A subject is missing or thin

Some subjects have much more in Augment than others. The subjects page shows what each one has today. If a subject you need is missing or thin, tell us through Feedback in the app or by email (see contact). Requests help us decide what to write next.
