Why Augment asks your age

Every student gives their age once, in years, and confirms it's true. We ask for the age, not a date of birth, because the age is all we need: Augment isn't for children under 13, and students under 18 need a parent or guardian's agreement.

Accounts made with Google are asked on their first sign-in.

If you're under 13

You can't make an account. Nothing you typed is kept: the account isn't created, or, if you signed in with Google, it's deleted straight away. That browser gets a small cookie, holding no personal data, that stops sign-up from it for 30 days.

If you gave the wrong age by mistake, a parent or guardian can email us at the address under contact.

If you're 13 to 17

When you give your age, you also confirm that a parent or guardian agrees to you using Augment under the Terms and the Privacy Policy. We record when you confirmed it.

A parent or guardian can ask us to see, correct or delete their child's data, or to close the account, by email. We check the account is their child's before acting.

Changing your name, picture or email

All of these are in Settings.

  • Name and picture: under Profile. Everyone starts with a monster picture; Change monster draws others, and you can upload a photo instead.
  • Email: under Account. We send a link to both the old and the new address, and the change happens once both are confirmed.
  • Password: under Account. We email you a 6-digit code to confirm it's you. Saving the new password signs you out on your other devices.

Connecting Google

Where Google sign-in is available, you can connect a Google account under Settings → Account and use it to log in. The Google account's email must be the same as your Augment email:

  • a Google account with a different email is disconnected again straight away;
  • you can't change your email while Google is connected, so disconnect it first;
  • if Google is the only way you sign in, it can't be disconnected.

Devices and sign-ins

Settings → Devices lists the devices signed in to your account, with the browser and IP address each one signed in from, and lets you log any of them out. Sign-in history is kept for 90 days.

Downloading your data

Settings → Account → Download my data gives you one JSON file with everything Augment stores about you: your account and profile, subjects, practice and progress, notes reading, flashcards, worksheets, feedback, notifications and sign-ins. Images are listed as links. You can download it 3 times an hour and 10 times a day.

Deleting your account

Settings → Account → Delete account. Type your email to confirm. Your account, progress, saved questions, flashcards and photo are deleted straight away, and it can't be undone, so download your data first if you want a copy.

Reports you sent stay as a record, with your name taken off.

What we don't do

There are no ads, no advertising trackers and no third-party analytics, and we never sell data. Nothing you do is shown to other students unless you share a worksheet by link yourself. The Privacy Policy has the full detail.
