AUGMENT EDUCATION ("Augment Education," "Augment," "we," "us," or "our") provides an online learning and revision platform for International Baccalaureate students, including question banks, flashcards, workbooks, practice sets, ranked practice, AI feedback, and related websites, applications, and services (collectively, the "Services").

This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect personal information when you use the Services, contact us, join our waitlist or newsletter, or otherwise interact with Augment.

2. Scope

This Privacy Policy applies to personal information we collect through:

  • our website and web application;
  • account registration, login, onboarding, and account settings;
  • learning features such as question banks, flashcards, workbooks, practice sets, ranked practice, and AI feedback;
  • support, feedback, content reports, newsletter, waitlist, and other communications; and
  • other interactions with us relating to the Services.

This Privacy Policy does not apply to third-party websites, services, or communities that we do not operate, even if they are linked from the Services.

3. Information We Collect

We collect the following categories of personal information.

3.1 Information you provide to us

Depending on how you use the Services, this may include:

  • Account information, such as your name, email address, password, authentication method, avatar, and profile details;
  • Student and study preferences, such as your IB subjects, Higher Level and Standard Level selections, exam session, timezone, notification settings, and privacy settings;
  • Learning content, such as answers, generated practice sets, flashcards, workbook entries, notes, tags, uploaded media, prompts, AI chat inputs, and other content you create, submit, upload, or store in the Services;
  • Learning activity, such as question progress, completion records, ranked practice sessions, ratings, streaks, missions, saved sets, shared sets, and feature usage;
  • Communications, such as support requests, bug reports, feedback, content reports, survey responses, and messages you send to us; and
  • Newsletter and waitlist information, such as your email address, subscription status, and unsubscribe preferences.

3.2 Billing information

Paid plans are not currently the core public billing flow. If we introduce paid plans or paid features, we may collect billing-related information such as plan type, payment status, billing contact details, transaction identifiers, invoice metadata, and payment processor customer identifiers. Full payment card details are handled by payment processors and are not intended to be stored by Augment.

3.3 Information collected automatically

When you use the Services, we may automatically collect:

  • Device and browser information, such as device type, operating system, browser type, language, and approximate region;
  • Log and usage information, such as IP address, access times, pages viewed, referring URLs, feature usage, errors, crash data, and diagnostic information;
  • Authentication and security information, such as login events, session activity, CAPTCHA or anti-abuse signals, and account security events;
  • Cookie and local storage data, as described in the Cookies section below; and
  • Service activity data, such as interactions with learning tools, settings, and in-app notifications.

3.4 Information from third parties

We may receive personal information from third parties, including:

  • authentication providers if you sign in using Google or another supported login provider;
  • payment processors if paid plans or paid features are introduced;
  • service providers that help us operate, secure, analyze, or improve the Services; and
  • other users, where they invite you, share a set with you, or otherwise interact with you through the Services.

3.5 Sensitive information

We do not intentionally require sensitive personal information, such as government identifiers, health information, biometric data, financial account credentials, or information about race, religion, political opinions, or sexuality. Please do not submit sensitive personal information through the Services unless we specifically ask for it and explain why it is needed.

4. How We Use Personal Information

We use personal information for the following purposes.

4.1 To provide and operate the Services

This includes:

  • creating, authenticating, and managing accounts;
  • personalizing your learning experience based on subjects, level, progress, and preferences;
  • storing and displaying your learning content;
  • tracking progress, completions, missions, rankings, and study activity;
  • enabling workbooks, flashcards, generated sets, saved sets, shared sets, and file uploads;
  • providing AI marking, explanations, generated questions, and related learning features; and
  • providing support and responding to requests.

4.2 To provide AI features

When you use AI-powered features, we process the relevant prompts, answers, question content, workbook content, or other learning content needed to generate the requested output. We may send that information to AI infrastructure or model providers that process it on our behalf.

We do not use your private user content to train general-purpose machine learning models for other customers. We may use aggregated, de-identified, or non-personal information to understand service performance, improve reliability, detect abuse, and improve the Services.

4.3 To maintain security and prevent misuse

This includes:

  • detecting, preventing, and investigating fraud, abuse, unauthorized access, spam, scraping, and other harmful activity;
  • enforcing our Terms and other policies;
  • monitoring service reliability, integrity, and security;
  • debugging and fixing operational issues; and
  • protecting the rights, property, and safety of Augment, our users, and others.

4.4 To improve and develop the Services

This includes:

  • understanding which features are used and how they perform;
  • improving usability, reliability, accessibility, and learning workflows;
  • developing new product features; and
  • evaluating aggregated or de-identified trends in learning activity and service usage.

4.5 To communicate with you

This includes:

  • sending transactional, administrative, account, security, and service-related messages;
  • responding to support requests, content reports, and other inquiries;
  • sending newsletter, waitlist, or marketing communications where permitted by law and in accordance with your preferences; and
  • notifying you about material changes to the Services or this Privacy Policy.

4.6 To comply with law and protect rights

This includes complying with applicable laws, regulations, lawful requests, recordkeeping obligations, dispute resolution, and legal process.

5. Legal Bases and Consent

Where Singapore's Personal Data Protection Act 2012 applies, we collect, use, and disclose personal information with your consent, deemed consent, contractual necessity, legitimate interests, or other bases or exceptions permitted by law.

If you are located in the EEA, United Kingdom, or Switzerland, we process personal information on one or more of the following legal bases:

  • Performance of a contract: where processing is necessary to provide the Services you requested, such as account creation, authentication, and core service delivery.

6.1 Service providers and processors

We disclose personal information to vendors and service providers that perform services on our behalf, such as:

  • hosting, database, authentication, and account infrastructure;
  • cloud storage and file delivery;
  • AI model, inference, and content processing infrastructure;
  • email delivery and customer communications;
  • anti-abuse, CAPTCHA, security, monitoring, and diagnostics;
  • product analytics and performance measurement;
  • payment processing and billing, if paid plans or paid features are introduced;
  • customer support, feedback, community, and issue-reporting tools; and
  • professional advisers, legal advisers, accountants, and auditors.

These parties are authorized to process personal information only as needed to provide services to us, subject to contractual and legal safeguards.

6.2 Sharing directed by you

Some features may let you share practice sets, invite other users, publish links, or otherwise make content available to others. Information you choose to share may be visible to the people who receive or access it.

6.3 Corporate transactions

We may disclose personal information in connection with an actual or proposed merger, acquisition, financing, asset sale, reorganization, bankruptcy, or similar transaction.

6.4 Legal compliance and protection

  • protect the rights, property, or safety of Augment, our users, or others.

6.6 De-identified or aggregated information

We may use and disclose information that has been de-identified or aggregated so that it can no longer reasonably be used to identify you.

7. Cookies and Similar Technologies

We use cookies, local storage, pixels, SDKs, and similar technologies to operate, secure, remember preferences for, and improve the Services.

These technologies may be used for:

  • authentication, security, session management, and load balancing;
  • remembering preferences and settings;
  • measuring service performance and feature usage;
  • detecting abuse and automated activity; and
  • marketing or campaign measurement, where applicable and permitted by law.

You can control cookies through your browser settings, though some parts of the Services may not function properly if certain technologies are disabled. Where required by law, we will request consent before using non-essential cookies or similar technologies.

8. User Content

You retain ownership of content you submit, upload, generate, or store in the Services. We process user content as needed to provide the Services, generate requested outputs, maintain security, prevent abuse, provide support, improve reliability, and comply with law.

Please avoid submitting content that you do not have the right to use, content that violates academic integrity rules, or unnecessary personal information about other people.

9. Data Retention

We retain personal information for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, including to provide the Services, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, maintain security, and enforce our agreements.

Retention periods vary depending on the type of information and why we need it. For example:

  • account information is generally retained while your account is active and for a reasonable period afterward;
  • learning progress, saved content, workbooks, flashcards, generated sets, and uploaded files are generally retained while your account is active unless you delete them or request deletion;
  • billing and transaction records, if paid plans are introduced, may be retained where required for tax, accounting, dispute, or legal compliance;
  • security logs and technical records may be retained for fraud prevention, debugging, and service integrity; and
  • backup copies may persist for a limited period before being overwritten.

If you close your account or request deletion, we will delete or anonymize personal information within a reasonable period unless we need to retain certain information for legitimate business, security, legal, or compliance reasons.

10. Security

We implement reasonable technical, administrative, and organizational safeguards designed to protect personal information against unauthorized access, loss, misuse, alteration, and disclosure.

These measures may include:

  • access controls and least-privilege practices;
  • password hashing and authentication protections;
